Managing Director, Issue & Crisis, U.S.
Jano Cabrera has more than 10 years of experience in political communications, crisis management, public relations, litigation communications and strategic consulting, including foreign governments.
Jano has worked in the U.S. Congress, the White House, on the Napster trial, three presidential campaigns, at the national Democratic party headquarters, for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and in Baghdad, Iraq; Bierut, Lebanon; Amman, Jordan; and Sannah, Yemen.
Prior to joining Burson Marsteller, Jano owned and operated Carthage Group Communications, a strategic communications and issue advocacy firm. There, Jano advised the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation on their Global Development Program, microfinance portfolio and agricultural development portfolio. He also helped Nobel Prize winner Muhammad Yunus and the Grameen Bank draw attention to their groundbreaking work on microfinance. In addition to philanthropic organizations, Cabrera also worked for domestic political clients (America Votes and Catalist) and on foreign accounts in Lebanon, Jordan and Yemen.
In 2005, Jano lived in Baghdad, Iraq and worked daily with members of the Transition National Assembly on the Iraqi constitution and the historic elections in December.
During the 2004 campaign, Jano served as the Communication Director for the Democratic Party. During the primaries, he was the national spokesman for the Joe Lieberman campaign. He also served as a national spokesman for former Vice-President Al Gore from 1998 to 2002, working at the White House, on Gore's 2000 presidential campaign and for Gore's political action committee, Leadership '02, during the 2002 midterms.
Jano also served as the Communications Director for the Recording Industry Association of America during the Napster trial and their transition into the digital marketplace.
Originally from California, Jano is a graduate of Pomona College, where he earned his degree in politics.
