Julie Vallese is a Managing Director in the Issues & Crisis Group, where she heads the Product Intergrity Practice.
Prior to joining B-M, she was Director of Information and Public Affairs for the US Consumer Product Safety Commission. In this role, she served as the agency’s chief spokesperson. Under her direction the Office of Public Affairs communicated to the public and to the media the most pressing issues facing the agency and consumers and furthers the agency’s safety mission.
The mission of the CPSC is to protect children and families against unreasonable risks of injury and death from over 15,000 types of consumer products. Not only is it this office’s responsibility to inform the public about hazards in the market place but to develop and disseminate the Commission’s news releases and organize Commission news conferences.
Prior to the CPSC, Julie worked for Cable News Network (CNN). Most recently she was the company’s Consumer Editor and on-air correspondent. In this position, she was responsible for covering a variety of consumer safety issues including consumer product safety issues, traffic safety and technology safety. Her reports were seen not only on CNN, CNN Headline News and CNN International but were also distributed to more than 700 local stations nationwide. Ms. Vallese was recognized for her most recent accomplishments by receiving the Media Spotlight Award from Mother’s Against Drunk Driving (MADD).
Before becoming the Consumer Correspondent of record for CNN, Julie held the position of Assignment Manager for CNN’s Washington Bureau. In this position, her responsibilities included making decision for future story coverage of the major beats around Washington, as well as directing the news room in prioritizing the events to be covered and how to cover them. As assignment manager she was recognized for her participation in CNN’s award winning coverage of the 9/11 disaster as well as contributions made to the network’s award winning political coverage of the 1996 and 2000 elections.
