A recognized industry leader in crisis management, Karen Doyne co-heads the agency’s U.S. Crisis Team from her base in our Washington, D.C., office. With more than 25 years’ experience at global public relations agencies, on Capitol Hill and in the media world, she provides strategic counsel in crisis and issues management, risk communication, reputation management and litigation support. Karen has been on the front lines of environmental and public health issues, class-action lawsuits, product liability and recall situations, activist protests, terrorism and natural disaster response, data security breaches, legislative and regulatory battles, and myriad other challenges. She has also managed crisis preparedness programs for companies in industries such as food, telecommunications and consumer products. Her clients have included Virginia Tech, Dow Chemical, Clorox, 3M, Johnson & Johnson, Visa USA, Sara Lee, Sony, Bridgestone/ Firestone, Bacardi, ING, Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, the U.S. Postal Service, and the National Association of Realtors. Karen was named by PRWeek magazine as one of the nation’s 22 top crisis counselors, and in 2007 was honored by Washington Women in Public Relations as one of the leading practitioners in the Nation’s Capitol. A member of the advisory board for the University of Michigan Risk Center, she speaks regularly at conferences and seminars on crisis, risk and litigation communications and has appeared in publications including The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The Financial Times, ABA Journal, forbes.com, PRWeek and AdWeek. Her recent article on risk communication is featured in the PR News Crisis Management Guide. Previously, Karen was a senior counselor at Ketchum Public Relations, where she also established that agency’s Litigation Communications practice. She previously served as Director of National Press Relations for the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS), where she led the network’s public relations and public affairs function; a senior manager with Fleishman-Hillard Washington; and Press Secretary to U.S. Senator David Durenberger. She began her career as an award-winning reporter and newscaster for an all-news/talk radio station in Minneapolis. Karen is a native of St. Louis, Mo., and a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Minnesota with a bachelor's degree in both journalism and theater. |
